PERMANENT MAKE-UP

Permanent Make-up is a form of cosmetic tattooing that can last for years. Tiny dots of pure, natural pigment are inserted using a digital device (or a handheld blade for microblading brows) into the skin to give an effect that mimics the appearance of natural-looking brows and make-up. I am highly trained in this field and only use the most up to date technology to create outstanding and long lasting results.

  • How long does Permanent Make-Up last?

The length of which Permanent Make-Up lasts depends on many factors; such as the method of which it is tattooed and the clients own body and lifestyle. Cosmetic Tattoo Brows last 2-4 years, Microblading lasts 1-2 years. Lips fade over time but can be visible for many years. Eyeliner will fade and break down over years whilst some will be visible forever, typically needs a booster every 1-2 years. The pigment is in the skin permanently but the colour lightens to make it barely visible after many years.

Can you have Permanent Make-up done whilst pregnant and/or breastfeeding?
No, you will need to wait until your not breastfeeding anymore.

Am I suitable for permanent make-up?
Most people are suitable for some form of Permanent Makeup. Before coming to the clinic you will be asked to fill in a consultation form and medical questionnaire to help understand your suitability. On the day in the clinic, I will explore with you which treatments will suit you best. This is a one-to-one consultation and includes a discussion of your desired results and expectations and any features you wish to enhance or balance. From this discussion, I will recommend and design your enhancement.

Does permanent make-up and microblading hurt?
All procedures are performed with your comfort in mind and I will do everything possible to minimise any pain or discomfort. For this reason, an anaesthetic gel is applied prior to and during treatment (for most treatments).

    How long are the appointments?
For brows the initial treatment can be up to 2 hour 30 minutes, up to 45 minutes can be consultation and brow mapping. The the second treatment is usually 1 hour. Please check the timings shown on the online booking system and ensure you have adequate time for your treatment that day.

Can I book a consultation before my treatment?

Yes, I offer a free no-obligation consultation for all permanent make-up.

Is it the same as a tattoo?
It is a form of tattoo, although different techniques and pigments are used. Anytime colour is implanted into the dermis of the skin, it is technically a tattoo, regardless of the manner in which it is performed.

    What is micro-pigmentation?

This is the name of the process used to implant colour in permanent makeup. Many people refer to permanent makeup by fancy names such as micro-pigmentation, dermal pigmentation etc. It is all correct, however, it truly is a tattoo process.

    Is the process safe?

Yes. We use all pre-packaged, sterile and disposable needles and needle casings. With the highly technologically advanced digital implantation system used, we use medical-grade needles that are encased in a special permanent cartridge. This patented cartridge system contains an internal diaphragm that prevents any bodily fluids and airborne contaminants from entering the system. This ensures that you will receive the safest, most sterile form of cosmetic tattooing available.

    Are there other health concerns?

There may be some situations where you would need medical clearance first. A thorough health history will be taken prior to your procedure. Any contraindications or medical alerts will be discussed prior to receiving the procedures. These situations are few and rare. It is advised that a doctor’s release be provided if you are under a physician’s care for certain ongoing medical conditions. There are a few skin disorders that prevent the application of permanent makeup.

How will it look immediately after the procedure?

You may experience minor swelling and redness on procedure day. Some people swell more than others. The eyes can be sensitive and if you have allergies, very watery eyes or know you swell easily, it is advised that you take an over-the-counter antibacterial eye-drop or similar prior to your procedure. Ice packs will help alleviate inflammation and can be used frequently for the first 24 hours. You may resume normal activities immediately except that you will be advised to wear no makeup directly on the treated area for about one week. See below for additional restrictions while healing. There is some minor redness, healing and peeling during the first week. Most clients resume their regular schedule, such as returning to work, the very next day. It is advised that for very special occasions or anytime you want to look your super-best that you allow one week of healing time.

When will I see the final results?

At first, the pigment will appear too dark. There is an exfoliative process during the healing that allows for the surface layer of colour to “peel” after 4-7 days. Once completely healed, you are actually viewing the colour through the skin, not on the surface as with traditional cosmetics. You can expect that it will “heal, peel and fade” after about one week. The colour is usually about 30-40% lighter when healed than it appears the day of the procedure. If the colour looks perfect immediately after the procedure, it would be much too light when healed.

Is it really permanent? How long does it last?

Some people may need the colour darkened within one to two years after the procedure. This is typically only about £100, since it is merely a colour boost of any areas which may have lost colour intensity.

What factors affect how long permanent make-up lasts?

Many factors can impact how long it lasts. The quality of the pigments used, the skill of the technician, the individual's skin type, how dark the original colour is, sun exposure, and the use of exfoliating skin-care products. First, the colour must be put into the dermis layer of the skin, if not, it will come off as soon as the epidermis goes through a normal shedding cycle. The sun, exfoliating products such as Retin-A, and regular swimming contribute to premature fading. Regular use of sunscreen will help prevent premature fading. A soft brown eyeliner colour will fade several months faster than a black eyeliner colour.

Can you have an MRI after permanent make-up?
Yes, you can safely have an MRI even if you have permanent makeup. It is recommended to wait 3 months after new permanent makeup. In rare, isolated cases of facial/head MRI scans, a warm sensation can manifest in the makeup areas. Statistical data indicates this is rare and usually related to heavy dark eyeliner. Simply tell the MRI technician that you have had permanent makeup (or any form of tattooing). This can differ from trust to trust, if you're due to have an MRI scan in close succession to your permanent makeup, please arrange the scan first and if not notify your doctor as the advice is to wait for 3 months.

  • What is the process for Semi-Permanent Brows?

For Semi-Permanent Brows you get 2 appointments, your initial tattooing appointment and then providing you return within 4- 12 weeks of your 1st appointment you get a top up appointment as part of the price. If you do not return within 12 weeks you will lose your inclusive second treatment and be charged accordingly.

Can I have my eyebrows corrected if someone else did a bad job?
There are some occasions where I am able to re-do brows created by someone else, this is only possible where then are no strange colours ie purple, grey, blue, green, pink or red etc, if the brows haven’t been wrongly shaped ie unsymmetrical, too high, too low, too thick, or if the colour is not too saturated ie. a block of colour.
The majority of the time the brow would need to be removed via laser tattoo removal and then redone fresh. The benefit of this is that any old bad discoloured tattoos will be removed and will not distort any new colours and tattoos being created.

Who is suitable for permanent brows?

Most people are suitable for some form of permanent make-up.

  • What is eyelash enhancement and how does it differ from eyeliner?
For a more natural, less dramatic effect than is achieved with the look of full eyeliner, eyelash enhancement can be done. The colour is implanted at the base of the lash line only. This procedure can even be done on men too and simply serves to define the eyelash line, make the lash base look fuller and denser. This is great for those that don’t usually wear eyeliner but want the eyes to stand out more. All eyeliner starts with lash enhancement to colour in the spaces between the eyelashes. The colour is then widened until the preferred thickness is achieved.

I am used to wearing a softly smudged look for eyeliner, can this be achieved

Yes, I adjust the treatment to determine preference for either a soft “smudgy” look or a clean straight crisp eyeliner style. Also, colour layering can be done to achieve a darker line in and just above the lashes, fading into a lighter “wash” of colour above the lash line.

I don’t usually wear eyeliner on my lower lids. Can I opt for just the upper lid liner? Yes, personal preference dictates where the colour is placed. You can have just upper or just lower eyeliner; or go with a darker liner on top and a softer, lighter colour on the lower lids.

Can I wear mascara while my new eyeliner is healing?
No, you must refrain from wearing mascara and other eye makeup while in the healing stages. It is recommended that you discontinue the use of mascara for 7 days and then resume with a brand new mascara to prevent any possible contamination or infection. Wearing mascara during the healing process can contribute to possible infection and removal of the mascara during healing can interfere with colour retention.

Can I have eyelash extensions before or after my permanent eyeliner?
You must not be wearing any eyelash extensions during your permanent eyeliner procedure. You should wait at least 14 days or until full healing has taken place before having lashes put on.

Can I have laser eye surgery before or after permanent eyeliner?
Either get your eyeliner done 2-3 weeks before your surgery, or you must then wait 3 months or until your doctor gives you the release to proceed with permanent eyeliner.

I have glaucoma, can I get permanent eyeliner?
You must have the form of glaucoma that does not require medication. If you use prescription medication for any eye condition, you must have a release in writing from your doctor.

If I have cosmetic surgery on my eyelids, will this change the look of my permanent eyeliner?Permanent eyeliner should be placed only in the natural lash line and above. The outer corners should not be connected and you shouldn’t have tails or “wings” tattooed beyond the corners. If you do get eyelid surgery the natural lash line is not altered, only excess skin removed. Your eyeliner should remain intact even after the surgery.

I wear contact lenses, how does this interact with the permanent eyeliner procedure?
You must remove lenses for the procedure and it is recommended that you wear glasses if possible for 2-3 days after. This is precautionary to prevent irritation and possible eye infections. If you need contacts to see and don’t have glasses you will need to keep them out the remainder of the day and have someone drive you home. With strict hygiene, you may begin wearing them the next day.

I’m using products to promote eyelash growth. Can I still use this before or after my permanent eyeliner treatment?

You must discontinue temporarily while healing from the eyeliner procedure. It is recommended that you refrain from using the product for about 10 days or until you are sure that the procedure area is completely healed. There is no data that shows if these products influence premature fading of permanent eyeliner.

  • Can I have a lipliner only and leave the lip area natural?
This is not stylistically recommended. It is recommended that the lip liner and lip fill-in colour be the same. However, less colour can be applied in the centre of the lip leaving a more lined lip look.

Can I still wear lipstick if I want to change the colour sometimes?
Absolutely! Since the permanent lip colour is implanted within the lip tissue, you can wear any colour you wish over the top and still get variety in your look. The lipstick will “cancel” out the colour of the permanent lip make-up.

How long will it take to see the healed results?
lip colour is unique. For all other areas of permanent make-up, you will heal in approximately 5-10 days with the final result visible at that point. Due to the nature of the lip tissue which is not the same physiological makeup of the rest of the facial or body skin, you can expect that it will be much darker for 3-4 days, you will have a “peeling” process (much like having chapped lips) for a day or so, and then the colour will actually appear too light. The initial reaction will be wishing you have chosen a darker, brighter or less natural colour. Not to worry – the colour is sharing the same space as the blood flow in the lip membrane. It takes 3-4 weeks for the colour to find a permanent “home” in that lip tissue and develop into the truly healed intensity desired. After 4-12 weeks you will return for a follow-up visit to check the results and it is sometimes necessary to have anywhere from minor touch up to a second full saturation to perfect the results.

    Which technique is used?

The most state-of-the-art technology today is the computerised digital system. This system allows for precision artistry, medical-grade sterility and with the computer “brain” the settings for the needle speed and depth can be individualised for each person’s skin type and texture. This allows for preservation of the skin’s integrity, minimal to zero chance of scar tissue or other complications often associated with permanent makeup tools or machines.

I have lip filler already, can I still get permanent lip blush?
Yes, but it is important to share this information with your permanent makeup technician. The filler and the colour will be sharing the same space within the lip tissue. Colour selection can need adjustments to ensure that the long-term colour results don’t change. It is recommended that the colour be implanted first, and after it is healed get the lip augmentation. This ensures proper placement and symmetry of the lip filler that nicely compliments the shape and symmetry of the permanent colour.

I am planning on having laser facial rejuvenation. Can I do this after having permanent lip blush?
You may have laser treatments such as IPL for photodamage, fraxel-type lasers for skin tightening and skin restoration but you need to inform the medical professional that you have permanent makeup. Certain colours can turn to an undesirable shade or get lightened or removed. It is simply avoiding direct contact between the laser and the permanent makeup areas.
